Ballymascanlon House Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth

About the project: Ballymascanlon House Hotel is an impressive Victorian 19th-century country house set on 130 acres of parkland. We worked with our long-valued clients, the Quinn Hotel Group, on a series of projects in the hotel to upgrade the historic interior and add leisure, conferencing, and accommodation facilities. The state-of-the-art leisure facility includes leisure pools, gym, sauna, water features, and tennis courts. Our aim was to bring an abundance of natural light, and to relate the pool to the greenery beyond. This was achieved by the distinctive waved-form rooflights and glass projecting elements. In 2001, a three-storey, 47-bedroom building was added, including penthouse suites, and conference rooms. The most recent addition to the hotel site is a large conference and banqueting venue, completed in March 2007. The design connects the hotel and banqueting facilities to the landscaped gardens beyond while offering a spacious venue with rich interiors.
